From the freshmen class to the junior class, this year’s Mr. GSMST competition is building anticipation in all grades. The drama club has worked with the Relay for Life team to plan the fantastic event. The event will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010, in the Duluth High School Cafeteria. The talent show is being combined with the Mr. GSMST competition, so there’s not just the competition to look forward to. The GSMST dance group will perform between sections of the competition. Under the direction of sophomore Olamide Aremu, the group is composed of freshmen girls.

There are many major things to look forward to this year at the competition. The talent portion will allow the competitors to show off skills that do not necessarily have anything to do with school. The formal wear section lets the ladies of GSMST shine as well. Their job is to walk the competitor on stage to participate in the Q&A part of the competition. Most of the guys are saying that they are not competing necessarily to win but simply to have fun.

A new competitor this year is sophomore, Andrew Wirt. Known for being quiet but witty, Andrew brings a lot to this contest. His talent is so far unknown, even to him. He loves reading and drawing. This year, he competed and attended the Dad’s Garage tournament with the Improv team. He is excited that his skills learned in Improv will be put to the test in this competition.

Another guy in the competition just to have fun is Nizar Virani. As a freshman, Nizar enjoys his chemistry and language arts classes. He likes to run outdoors and enjoys cooking for others. He also is interested in technology and photography. He hopes to get “a fun Friday evening” out of this experience.

The junior class is represented well with Eric Day.  Eric loves to learn in his physics class. He enjoys his time outdoors, and anything from running and hiking to kayaking allows him to relieve stress. Eric wants to get “experience talking in front of audiences,” and he hopes to win! Eric has a great idea for his talent, so come out on Friday night and support him and all the other contestants.
